ANSWERS
Where and how can I listen to Dakka
Dakka? Radio Scorpio is not a web radio.
It is an actual FM radio station in the city of Leuven
(about 15 miles from Brussels). You can listen to Dakka
Dakka when you are in Leuven and vicinity. Plans are
forming to make Scorpio available worldwide via the
Internet as an audio stream as well, but since these
plans are still vague we cannot give you a fixed date
as when you will be able to listen to us on the net.
What
should the quality of my recordings be? The
sound of your recordings must be of decent quality:
no crummy live recordings, no rehearsal recordings,
no awfully sounding bootlegs,...
Will
Dakka Dakka air the kind of music I release and what
if it doesn't? The music you play must be
in one of the styles that we mention in our Lexicon
of genres or something similar (basically anything
with distorted guitars in it). If you play something
completely different (jazz, blues, world music, classical,
jungle, hip hop,...), contact another
radio show on the station.
What
carrier formats do you accept?
If you want us to give airplay to your songs
you will have to provide us with an audio-CD (or audio
CD-R). The old-fashioned slab of vinyl (LP, 7 inch)
is still accepted as well, but we prefer a CD if the
same material is available on CD. Other formats (MP3,
audio-tape, Minidisc,...) are not useful to us.
What
if I send more than one copy of my CD?
Any extra copy of your CD that you send will
be given away to the listener(s) in a small contest.
Only one copy is kept in our archives.
Does
the CD have to be very recent to be played?
No. Recent CD's get priority, so it might be that you
will have to wait a month or so if yours isn't, but
we guarantee you that older CD's get played as well.
Official re-releases (back-catalogues) of older CD's
are treated as new releases.
Can
I send MP3'S or send you links to MP3's? You can send links. We
do occasionally download MP3's but without a guarantee as to the timeframe in which we do this. We do not accept any MP3's
or similar soundfiles sent by e-mail.
Can
I send files by e-mail?
Please DO NOT SEND us MP3's or other large files
BY E-MAIL. We prefer receiving your biography or other
info in a printed format through regular mail along
with the promo-copy of your release. This will prevent
us from having to print everything out ourselves.
Can
I send in magazines to bring under the audience's attention?
As long as it's about the kind of music we play on Dakka
Dakka we can tell our listeners there's a new issue
of your magazine and give them a brief summary of what's
in it. In the case of a magazine we do however ask you
to send us at least 3 extra copies, so we can give them
away to listeners. The magazines have to be printed.
We will not pay attention to photocopied fanzines and
the likes.
Can
I send you information about live concerts? We
will tell our audience about your gig if it takes place
in Belgium or not too far across the border into Germany
or the Netherlands. Contact
Stel if you want him to mention a Belgian gig.
I'd
like to get in touch with Belgian tour promotors or
labels. Can you help? We used to have a resource
page for bands with contact addresses of European distributors,
concert promotors and local venues. Maintaining it started
taking up more time than we could afford so we chose
no longer to offer that page as part of our website.
You can still see it here,
but we do not guarantee it's accuracy, nor do
we concider it being officially part of this website,
since we haven't updated it in years.
What
about interviews? If
you want to be interviewed, e-mail Stel. He will contact you by e-mail
if he feels an interview with your band would be interesting
to our listeners, and he will set a date with you. Instead
of mailing us, you can also phone us while we're in
the studio (ask for Foob or Stel of Dakka Dakka) thursdays
between 20:00 and 21:00.
Don't forget that we have to know who you are,
and what you stand for as a band, before we can ask
you decent questions. A bio and some extra information
should therefore accompany your promo-package.
Phone interviews: at the day of the interview
phone us at about 19:20 (local time) at ++32 16 222
300. The interview will then start within a few minutes
and will take about 10 or 15 minutes.
Live studio interviews: Bands from the vicinity
wishing to come to the studio for an interview, should
also set a date first. Please arrive before the start
of the show. We usually arrive only 10 minutes before
the show starts, so if you're really early, we advise
you to visit one of the pubs in the vicinity (don't
forget why you're there, though).
Will
I get a refund for sending in promo material or get
my package back? We do not pay money or give
refunds for the material you send. The material (one
copy anyway) will be kept in our archives for possible
future reference or additional airplay later on (when
there's a drop in new incoming material). We do not
send promo-material back. If this is a problem, simply
send something less expensive instead (such as a sampler
CD spanning several releases at once).
Will
Dakka Dakka pass on our promo material to other shows
as well? There's only one radio show like
Dakka Dakka on Radio Scorpio (although there are several
guitar oriented shows) and there's no internal exchange
program between the different radio shows on the station.
In essence each radio show is an independent
entity. This means that anything you send to
Dakka Dakka will not be played on another radioshow
(and anything you send to another radioshow will not
be played on Dakka Dakka). The only exception is the
radioshow 'Sterrenplaten'. Each week Dakka Dakka chooses
one song to be played on that radio show as well, as
it is a list of the week favourites of the most important
music radio shows on the station.
How
can I know if my songs were actually played?
as a rule we do not send playlists by e-mail (although
we sometimes do anyway), but for your convenience we
have created the playlists-page on this website, which
gives you the opportunity of checking them out for yourself,
any time you like.
I
have sent you my CD two months ago and I'm still not
in your playlists. If we had a period with
a high amount of incoming material it is possible that
we simply didn't get around to playing your CD yet.
However, two months is a long time so it might mean
there is a problem. Contact
the person you have sent your material to.
What
if promo's are too expensive for me? if sending
promotional material such as CD's is simply too expensive
for you you can always make a copy (or selection from
multiple CD's) onto one self-burned CD-R. Don't feel
obliged to send us your package by airmail either. Surface
mail is slower but cheaper and those few extra days
or weeks won't make the difference.
Can
I send my package as registered mail? Since
we have daytime jobs that do not permit us to go to
the mail office before it closes, chances are your registered
package will be sent back to you before we had the chance
to go and get it. In short, only send your packages
by registered mail if you have a huge mistrust of the
postal services.
How
should I send my package (gift or merchandise)? This
is important!: please mark your package as
a gift or a a sample without value. If you mark
it as merchandise we're supposed to pay customs. Since
we're not planning on doing that we will refuse your
package and it will be sent back to you.
What's
the audience? Scorpio never conducted a real
survey so we have no numbers to give you. However, Radio
Scorpio and Dakka Dakka are not marginal for several
reasons, the most important being:
- Radio Scorpio is the only alternative radio station
in Leuven, and it's the oldest one as well, with a strong
reputation amongst people who are not into mainstream
music.
- One of Europe's biggest universities is located here
(in fact, many radio station contributors are students).
This alone already provides us with a large pool of
potential listeners, since it is amongst students one
would find the most dedicated listeners of an alternative
station like Radio Scorpio.
- Radio Scorpio now promotes itself much more actively
than was the case in the past, with street posters,
flyer campaigns at school gates and at cultural venues,
cinemas and pubs and with regular parties.
- When it comes to a varied yet consistent mixture of
Metal, Punk and Rock, Dakka Dakka is the radio
show for the dedicated listener on the station.
- Dakka Dakka is one of the oldest radio shows on the
station and people know what we stand for.
What
address should I send it to? Especially
if it's the first time you send us something it might
be interesting to know what the individual DJ's prefer
to air (it might result in an extra whirl if time permits
it). This does not mean your music won't get played
at all if the music you play is not mentioned among
the DJ's favourite genres. We're trying to keep an open
mind and we are interested in anything new. We always
try to make our radio show as varied as possible. See
the contacts page for more
information and for the addresses you can send your
promo package to.
Can
I send promo-materials directly to Radio Scorpio instead
of Dakka Dakka? If your label releases
anything else than the loud guitars
stuff we play that would indeed be a good idea.
Contact information of Radio Scorpio can be found on
the
website. If however you wish Dakka Dakka to play
your music it is faster and more certain to be played
by us if you send it directly to us. See the contacts
page for more information and for the addresses
you can send your promo package to.
