I never did artwork for children's books. It's only after I became a parent that the idea of writing and illustrating a children's book rose in my mind. Now it has become a dream to turn that idea into reality. Leaving LBi to become a free lance web designer will hopefully give me the flexibilty to be able to complete this project this year. Wish me luck, because I have no street credibility or name in the field.
A friend working at a book publisher told me that only 1 out of 200 manuscripts sent to a publisher gets published. However, having published in literary (Flemish) magazines in the past, and having won a modest literary prize as well, I give myself a real chance at being among those 0,5% of hopefuls. And if not, well then at least my children will have something unique to read.
The image to the right is the first illustration I did for the book. It's the portrait of one of the main characters.
Below: more illustrations for the same book.
